Liberal ideology has historically been viewed as compassionate reasoning. That’s no longer the case
On November 21st, 2021, Darrell Brooks, a 39 year old resident of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, plowed his Ford SUV into a crowd of people attending a Christmas Parade in Waukesha, killing six and injuring sixty. Brooks victims ranged in age from 8 to 81, and there appears to be as of now, no clear motive as to why he would commit such a horrendous act. He had been out on $1,000 bail for assaulting his ex girlfriend on November 19th. Two days later, the Christmas parade tragedy occurred.
Yet the incident has hardly received the coverage an act of domestic terrorism or mass murder should, and yes, it meets the definition of both. Rather than using these terms, most of the media called the incident a “crash”, and little has been said since. Compared to the January 6th riots in which two individuals, 35 year old Air Force Veteran Ashli Babbitt (shot by Capitol police) and one police officer (also an Air Force Veteran) Brian Sicknick (who died of natural causes a day after the riots) were killed, the Christmas Parade attack victims appear to be of no concern to the majority of media outlets. It’s speculation as to why, though many would argue Brooks is not the type of suspect the media could build a narrative upon, which sadly today usually means they need to be a Trump supporter, or conservative zealot. And so, the victims of Waukesha will be considered less than a footnote of mass murder casualties by most of the American press.
For the past two years liberal ideology has been nothing more than blind sympathy for violent actions. Remember David Dorn? Don’t worry, neither does CNN, yet Dorn’s story should be noted as an act of bravery. A 77 year old retired police officer in St. Louis, Dorn was murdered for attempting to stop a friend’s pawn shop from being burglarized during the protests which erupted after the George Floyd murder. Remember the Dallas store owner who was brutally beaten unconscious by rioters on May 30th 2020? It’s ok if you don’t, but USA Today and Reuters will make sure you realize he wasn’t murdered, (he did survive) while reiterating why riots were mostly necessary. This story is so minimal that his name is nowhere to be found, despite the video of what occurred. All in all, 25 Americans were killed during the 2020 protests, as well as a number of law enforcement officers murdered or injured.
One of the reasons that most of journalism is a shell of what it once was is the overwhelming hypocrisy that liberals continue to display without shame. Very few, including the former President, defended the January 6th protests, and Republicans for the most part deemed it despicable. Rioting and protesting during Presidential inaugurations have happened before. Democrats may now applaud the bravery of capitol police, but look back at the 2000 Presidential inauguration of George W. Bush, and that tells a different story. Police were accused of being overly aggressive, intimidating, and controlling. Several officers were injured, and 1300 arrests made. 234 people were arrested during Trump’s inauguration, charged with rioting and property destruction. Democrat politicians criticized government overreach, and attack on free speech. Though no January 6th rioter has actually been charged with insurrection, they still sit in jail. Ray Epps, who’s on video instigating the Capitol breach, has not only been cleared of any wrongdoing, but is no longer considered relevant by the January 6th commission.
Liberal ideology no longer represents the values it once did. The ACLU will pat itself on the back and list on it’s website the number of times it has come to the defense of Republicans or so called right wing personalities, as well as the NRA. No matter the first and second amendments are already constitutional rights, they somehow believe this proves they still protect “speech they hate”. Yet recently, the organization tweeted out that an 18 year old had been murdered by DC Police, (the evidence said otherwise) and against Title XI, which allows a student due process if accused of sexual assault or harassment. The New York Times reported in June 2021 that the ACLU now appears to be more concerned with progressive causes than defending the first amendment. In the 1960’s and 70’s, the right to speak even if it offended someone was ferociously defended. This was true for the press, the arts, and most importantly, citizens.
Minimizing crime and lowering penalties has not only been costly, but deadly as well. The riots of 2020 resulted in 2 billion dollars worth of damage, and it wasn’t just huge corporations that suffered. Small businesses paid a hefty price, and yet no one from the democratic party addressed the damages. Liberal cities have dismissed violence and crime, with Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti telling Angelenos to accept it as a way of life. Female athletes are now having to compete with biological males, with years of hard work and sacrifice lost due to an unfair playing field. Professional sports and Hollywood advocate civil rights, but forget about the civil rights of Chinese slave labor or the citizens of Taiwan. Free Tibet, once displayed on every Subaru in the 1990’s, is now forgotten.
It’s time to stop viewing liberal politicians, celebrities or athletes as compassionate human beings. Far from it. Their blind hatred of trying to stop anything conservative has cost lives, and livelihoods. Criminals are now victimized, and victims vilified. Rates of suicidal ideation, depression, and other mental health issues have significantly increased in the last decade. Media is now the great divider, no longer a concept meant to report facts, but rather today, use emotion to create conflict. Social media sites censor anything they choose, yet still call themselves free speech platforms. Doctors, teachers, and even former liberal advocates face censorship for anything that goes against the left’s agenda. This is not compassionate, no matter how much they believe it is. True compassion will come about when egos and open minds can debate with civility.
Until next time
