At the beginning of March 2020, Dr. Anthony Fauci was interviewed by, Dr. Jon La Pook of 60 minutes. It is important to understand Dr. Fauci’s history before we examine this interview.
Dr. Fauci was appointed director of, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) in 1984. He has an extensive portfolio of infectious diseases to monitor. Research on HIV/AIDS, respiratory illnesses (such as Influenza and Coronaviruses), tuberculosis, and malaria are just some of the many diseases Dr. Fauci is involved in and has been involved in for decades. – Credit NIAID
Dr. Fauci is ranked 35th as the worlds most cited researchers on Google. He is also ranked 9th, out of 2.5 million authors in the field of immunology, by citation count, from 1980 to 2021. He has won numerous awards and metals including the highest medal given to any civilian by the President of the United States, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. – Credit NIAID
Dr. Fauci has much more accreditation and honors then this and you can read his biography on the National Institute of Health’s website (www.niaid.nih.gov).
So how is it that one can question such a prestigious person as Dr. Fauci? How can a person with lesser education even begin to believe that something is wrong with what Dr. Fauci says? How is all of this related to cancel culture?
We start with Dr. Fauci’s interview with Dr. John La Pook. By the time of this interview Dr. Fauci had already earned the vast majority of his accreditation and honors. Dr. Fauci is commenting on the effectiveness of masks during the 2020 Covid19 pandemic. “Masks are ineffective at preventing transmission of this disease, especially the type of masks that you buy at the store. Some particles coming from the mouth may be caught, but most of the particles coming from the mouth are too small for the masks to trap.” – Dr. Anthony Fauci
During the 2004 SARS epidemic (which was also a coronavirus) most people in China wore masks. By the time of Dr. Fauci’s interview with Dr. La Pook in 2020, everyone in China and many people in Europe were already wearing masks. In the numerous emails published by, The Washington Post, Dr. Fauci repeatedly advised people that masks were ineffective. So how does a 50 year veteran of science, in the field of research with respiratory illnesses, suddenly become oblivious as to the effectiveness of masks?
Dr. Fauci also stated that people were constantly touching their masks, usually to adjust them, or were touching other surfaces and then touching their face. In other scientific reports, cloth masks were even less effective and cannot be accepted as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) because of repeated washing, bending, and stretching of these masks. It was also suggested that disposable masks be changed out every 30 to 45 minutes and the old masks discarded. Cloth masks were typically worn all day by workers and contaminated disposable masks were often found littering the parking lots of stores.
In May of 2020, Dr. Fauci suddenly changed his mind. He stated that it was because of “new” information about the coronavirus. Now, after explaining all the scientific reasons why people should not wear masks, suddenly masks become very effective. Store bought masks went from being “especially ineffective” to being very effective. This despite the fact that all the store bought masks still very specifically print warnings about how ineffective they are against viruses or bacterial infections and none of them make claims as to how effective they are against Covid 19.
After extensive research on flu viruses for 50 years, Dr. Fauci has never recommended wearing masks or social distancing to the extent he did in 2020. The swine flu epidemic of 2009, which was also a new strain and widely unknown, never saw the closing of schools or businesses. There was also no recommendations to wear masks. Yet suddenly we are told 98% of all flu cases disappeared because of masks and social distancing? How could a man so familiar with masks and respiratory illnesses not have a clue about masks and social distancing until now?
Scientific recommendations during 2020 was that no more the five people should be allowed into a group gathering outdoors. Scientists explained how one person was capable of spreading disease to over a thousand people in one day.
In April of 2020, National Geographic, The New York Times, The LA Times, The Washington Post, and several other magazines published articles about how minorities and especially the African American community were more susceptible to getting, transmitting, and dying from Covid 19 then anyone else because of their genetic makeup.
In June of 2020, people gathered by the thousands in large groups all over the country ranging up to 100,000 people in places like Hollywood, California to protest the murder of George Floyd. Science and the media both proclaimed that these people, mainly comprised of African American protesters, were not responsible for the spikes in Covid 19 that were taking place during that time. This was regardless of the recently pronounced “facts” that large groups outdoors were dangerous and African Americans were more susceptible to getting, spreading, and dying from Covid 19.
Business closures happened out of fear of too many people gathered in one place. Yet, more people were forced in masses at Wal-Mart or corporate grocery stores because of those closures. Is standing outside Wal-Mart with 200 or more people really less dangerous then standing outside with 10 people waiting to get into a local business?
More then 700,000 people lost their lives in the United States because of this pandemic. It has helped to create a tremendous amount of division and hatred among people because politics got mixed into the fray. Do we believe that politics and Government have nothing to do with influencing science even though science is funded by politics and Government?
Just like with religion, it is difficult to accept the words of science when they contradict and seemingly play into the hands of those that provide their paychecks.
The next article will go deeper into the “woke” culture and how it’s methods of barbarism and censorship have not helped with recognizing social justice and have, in fact, made it worse.
