Strong leaders are a dying breed

Americans believe kindness is a more important virtue than strength when it comes to our elected officials. That’s not a good thing

If you believe Liz Cheney as many Republicans do, Donald Trump is the greatest threat to democracy this country has ever seen. Cheney, who this past Tuesday lost her bid for re-election by a landslide to Harriet Hageman, was the most vocal critic of the former President, and the star of the January 6th committee. Facing the impossible task of overcoming the massive lead Hageman held over her leading up to the election, Cheney enlisted the help of her father to help win over Wyoming Republicans who had become disenchanted with the fact that she was more focused on Trump than the needs of their state. This was highly evident in her father’s TV ad, in which the former Vice President never mentioned one attribute his daughter brought to Wyoming, but instead, hailed her efforts to make sure the former President could never again have a chance to seek public office. With the exception of Jackson Hole, with it’s high powered celebrity residents and an extremely high cost of living compared to the rest of the state as well as the nation, Wyoming overwhelming rejected this plea. In her concession speech, she continued to assault Trump, compare herself to Abraham Lincoln, and talk about the importance of democracy.

It’s absolutely shocking that Cheney, Mitt Romney, Adam Kinzinger and other Republicans who can’t stand Trump are now considered the last great conservatives who care about democracy, despite the fact that they were villainized for years and defined as war mongers. But the left, in a dramatic reversal of roles, no longer care about war profiteering or silencing voices that disagree with government overreach. If you hate the former President, that’s good enough for them, endless wars be damned.

For years conservative politicians preached the virtues of a secure border, free enterprise, and the importance of not allowing Marxist ideology to influence government. Just as the left can forgive war mongering, never Trump Republicans are willing to do the same with leftists that share the same goal. The never Trump crowd never fully believed in the causes they claimed to be advocating for, and it was proven when Trump not only won the presidency in 2016, but delivered on the issues many conservatives and yes, some democrats longed for. Under Trump, America never engaged in war, and manufacturing jobs made their way back to the US. Here is why Trump is the biggest threat to both parties, and why there is a very well coordinated effort to make sure he never runs again. It’s a shame that many of these same Republicans that are now viewed as allies have forgotten how they were once treated by the left. For years now, there hasn’t been one election in which a Republican has won that democrats haven’t challenged or called illegitimate. On the senate floor in 2001, 25 senators attempted to deny electoral votes to Bush, and yet, not one ever accused the left of threatening democracy.

Sadly, much of America has turned a blind eye toward the hypocrisy of the left, and simply continue to go along with the take down Trump at all cost narrative. To many, nice words and gentle gestures are more important than strength and courage. Naturally, when a society has reached an optimal level of freedom, it’s easy to forget how we got there, and how history can repeat itself when you don’t have a united domestic front. It’s absolutely true that words do matter, and everyone needs to be aware of what they say. But like it or not, that doesn’t make someone a weak leader. The left, media and many conservatives will throw around threat to democracy and fascism all day, yet somehow believe we will fail to realize that true fascism includes disarming it’s citizens as well as censoring their opinions. Hopefully, we will once again understand the importance of choosing strong leaders.

Until next time
